FAQs
Why is Liberty Bay Credit Union switching from Mastercard™ to VISA®?

You can activate your new card immediately upon receipt.

If I have a Mastercard™ debit card, will my card number change?

Yes, your debit card number will change.

Will my PIN change?

Only if you want it to. When you call to activate your new card you will also be instructed to create a PIN. However, you can use the same pin number previously being used if you wish.

Will my existing automatic payments linked to my MasterCard transfer to Visa?

Yes, LBCU will be notifying existing merchants of the switch to Visa. However, we advise members to follow up individually to give merchants your new Visa debit card number as well.

Do I have to request a new VISA® card?

No, you will automatically receive a new VISA debit card in the mail during the roll out period.

Will my limits change?

No, limits will remain the same. Members can withdraw up to $1,500 per day from ATMs and $1,500 at point of sale locations.

No; your courtesy pay will not be affected and will continue to work throughout the conversion and after.

What is the difference between my VISA® Debit and my VISA® Credit Card?

The VISA® Debit is directly linked to your checking account. When you use your VISA® Debit the funds are withdrawn from your checking account. VISA® Credit allows you to borrow the money and repay later.

What should I do with my Mastercard™ debit card?

Your Mastercard™ debit card can be destroyed, shredded or returned to any branch for destruction once you have activated your new Visa debit card.

If my Mastercard™ is due to expire in February 2025 or March 2025, will I receive a new Mastercard™ in the mail?

Yes, you will be reissued a MasterCard because we didn’t want to interrupt anyone’s access to having a debit card. There is a possibility that you will receive a MasterCard at the same time as your VISA®  arrives. If so, once the VISA is activated, the MasterCard can be destroyed.
