Is my account federally insured?

As a member of Liberty Bay, take comfort in knowing that every dollar you deposit is safe, secure, and 100% insured. All deposits are fully insured by a combined insurance coverage of the National Credit Union Association (NCUA), up to $250,000, and the Massachusetts Shared Insured Corporation (MSIC) covers the rest. Now that’s safe keeping.

What is the difference between a credit union and a bank?

Banks operate to generate profits for their stockholders or private owners. Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives, owned and operated by the Members. Credit union profits are returned to their member-owners in the form of higher deposit rates, lower loan rates, and no or low cost services.

Why is $5 dollars held in my savings account?

That $5 makes you a member-owner of the credit union; it is the foundation of your membership with us. Your initial membership deposit makes you a part owner and gives you a say in the credit union’s decision. This $5 minimum balance is your money and will be returned if you should ever close your membership.
