BRAINTREE, MASS. (May 7, 2020) – Liberty Bay Credit Union is proud to announce our 2020 scholarship winners. A total of $11,500 of scholarship money will go to area students who plan on furthering their education.
Liberty Bay’s general scholarships are in the names of current and former Directors of the Board. Each scholarship is in the amount of $1,000 and is available to students who have been accepted to or are enrolled in an accredited two or four year college, university, technical or vocational school.
The Jane B. Cella Community Service Scholarship is awarded to one student who has shown dutiful service and made significant contributions to their community. The scholarship pays tribute to Cella in honor of her 46-year career at Liberty Bay. This $1,500 scholarship requires the applicant to describe in 100-300 words how they have made a difference by volunteering in their community over the past year and can be used towards the purchase of books and supplies during the academic year.
The recipient of this years Jane B. Cella Community Service Scholarship was Karina Lam of Braintree for her dedication to volunteerism. Karina has volunteered with Massachusetts General Hospital assisting with patient transport and directing patients to appointments. She also volunteered at the Norfolk County Sherrif’s camp as a Peer Leader.
Liberty Bay received 75 applications for the Directors Scholarships and 8 applicants for the Jane B. Cella Community Service Scholarship.
